D.C. Nanny

http://dcnanny.com
A free (for now) website dedicated to helping connect nannies and families in the D.C. area. Allows you post a job or search applicants. The site allows you to perform background checks and some of the sitters have been reviewed. The site is updated every 6 weeks so that you do not waste your time contacting potential nannies who are no longer available.

Sittercity

http://sittercity.com
A fee to join. You can pay monthly or for the full year to browse local babysitters and nannies or to post a job. The best way to find a sitter is to post a job. You will have to weed through a few replies before you find a suitable potential sitter. Many are local students. The site is not updated, so many of the sitters shown on the preview are no longer available. Some sitters are reviewed and rated and you can perform background checks for a small fee.

Review:This is how I found my wonderful, caring babysitter who watches Peanut once a week.

Craig’s List

Post a job. You will have to spend some time searching through a number of replies. There are no online ratings, reviews or background checks. But, it is free and easy to use. Many people do find wonderful babysitters this way.
